Overview[edit | edit source]

Now that you're on the team, let's get you set up with everything that you need! This page will walk you through...

  • SOLIDWORKS 2024 Installation (With PDM)
  • PDM Vault Mirroring
  • GTMS SOLIDWORKS Template Setup
  • GitHub
  • Mapping ARGO

No need to delay more -- let's get going!

Installing SOLIDWORKS 2024[edit | edit source]

Start by uninstalling any previous versions of SOLIDWORKS that you have on your computer. Do this from the "Add or Remove Programs" page of Windows Settings.

Find any any existing versions of SOLIDWORKS and uninstall them.

Click through any additional menus needed to remove SOLIDWORKS and then restart your computer.

Once you've done this, install the academic version GTMS uses by going here: solidworks.com/sek. Fill out the form as shown below, taking special note of the boxed sections.

Start by running "View Setup" on your machine

PDM Vault Mirroring[edit | edit source]

Start by running "View Setup" as admin on your machine

Click through the first page

Click "Add" and enter the following server information. Then hit "OK"

Server name: mefsvs03.me.gatech.edu

Port: 3030

At this point, the PDM server should be present in the server list. Click "Next >"

Wait for PDM to pull the vault info... this might take a second. Once it does, you should see the following screen. Amusingly, this is the same as the previous screen. Don't ask me why :)

If your PDM can't get to this screen (or any of the previous ones), make sure you

1. Ran "View Setup" as admin

2. Are on eduroam or connected to the GT VPN

3. Installed Solidworks 2024

To continue, check the box next to GTMS PDM and hit "Next >"

Save the vault where you want to, make sure to allow all users to see the vault if this is a shared machine, and hit "Next >"

Hit Finish, wait for PDM to add the vault, and hit close!

You should now see GTMS PDM in the directory you installed it to and try logging in.

To login to the vault, locate PDM in your explorer, right click, select "Show More Options" and then hit "Log In"

Once exec leaders set up your PDM account, your default username and password are:

Username: GT USERNAME (ex. jmillington3)

Password: gtms

Once you hit the arrow next to "Log In" the blue window should disappear and your File Explorer will likely lag for a while (get used to this). Sometimes, an error about not being able to communicate with the License Server pops up. If you get this error, try logging in one or two more times (it seems to fix itself most times). If that doesn't work, talk to a lead.

You'll know you've installed and logged in successfully if your file explorer looks like this:

Once you see this screen, you're all set. Talk to your lead about checking files in/out and subsystem-specific best CAD practices.

Mapping ARGO[edit | edit source]

Start by opening up file explorer on your laptop

Go to "This PC", click the three dots at the top, and select "Map Network Drive"

Keep the drive as Z:

Enter this for the folder name: \\ad.gatech.edu\mefs$\stugroups\gtms

And click "Connect Using Different Credentials"

Enter your GT email and password, select remember my credentials, and hit ok

After doing this, ARGO will show up in your file explorer!
